At the risk of reinforcing the cliché, how has 2022 been going for you?
We hope that it’s been treating you well, and you’re able to start it on the right foot. But if not, that’s all right, too. Everyone has a different way of facing a new year.
If you’re looking for a dose of motivations to get you through the beginning of the year, here’s a list of reminders for you:
Your dreams have no expiration date
Just because another year already passed, it doesn’t mean you’re too late to chase your dreams.
Same with the end of the year; just because the year has closed in, it doesn’t put an expiration date on your dreams. You are allowed to start working on it anytime. Even today.
It might help to set up resolutions that really work, rather than making a bunch of goals that stand strong for a short period of time but eventually wear out in a month or so.
Give yourself some time for reflections
With the enthusiasm and the festivities, or even the gloominess and the somber mood that follow it, it’s easy to lose yourself in the transition. Suddenly you woke up and the calendar has rolled a different digit.
You are allowed to feel relief that it passed, or mourn for its loss. Some memories can’t be repeated, and leaving 2021 might be a strong reminder of it all.
Take time to reflect on how it was going for you: What went well? What are you grateful for? What went horrible? What would you do differently this year?
Celebrate last year’s achievements
2021 might be the greatest year for some people. For some others, it might be a year full of uncertainty and struggles. Anyone experiences it differently, but they are both valid.
It’s useful to list down things you have achieved, unlearned, and let go. The big and little things that make you think, “There, despite everything, I’ve made it.”
It might sound insignificant, but putting it out for you to see could give you a boost of motivation and affirmations. It also serves as a reminder about what you should bring to this year, or which ones you should leave behind.
What you see on social media doesn’t cover everything
It is that time of the year where your family members, friends, and colleagues put on a show of their last year’s chapter. Your feed is flooded with people making throwbacks, posting highlight reels, and so on.
What you must remember is that, like the name, they are merely highlights. They are not the whole picture. You can’t compare your behind-the-scenes to their highlights.
Life isn’t a competition, and you’re not racing against anyone. Your life is yours to take charge of, however and whenever you like it.
If you’re looking for a sign to start anew, this is it
This is your sign to start anew. Your career, your relationship, your growth, your healing; if you need someone to point out this is the time, this is the time.
Start on that personal project you’ve been keeping from anyone. Apply for that dream job in that dream company. Connect to old friends that have been out of contact for a year. Mend broken relationships.
Anything you set your eyes to, this is the time to do it.
(Also, remember that you don’t have to wait for 2023 for another fresh start. You can do it anytime!)
Let’s start this year with the right mindset: Whatever goals you’re setting this year, you have the means to achieve them.
And when you forget that, we hope this list can serve as a reminder.
As always, thank you for being here. Go chase your dreams, or go back to whatever you’re doing before you read this. We are rooting for you! 🙌
